LANXESS, one of the leading specialty chemicals companies, has made investment to expand Baypren polychloroprene solid rubber production capacities at the Dormagen facility. The total investment is worth EUR 17 million.
The production capacity will be increased by 10%, which means 63,000 metric tons of polychloroprene solid rubber will be produced per year. The expansion work will be completed in late 2012. Baypren polychloroprene solid rubber portfolio belongs to the Technical Rubber Products (TRP) business unit of LANXESS. The business unit is a part of Performance Polymers segment.
LANXESS’ expansion project also includes the use of new production technology. This will allow the company to efficiently manage resource and energy in an ecological way.
Baypren products range has various applications, including production of hoses, seals, cable sheathing, air springs and belts. Currently, the global demand for polychloroprene solid rubber is rising at a rate of approximately 3% per year. Hence, the availability of elastomer is being limited in view of this demand.
