DuPont has announced a plan for expanding global titanium dioxide capacity which will reinforce the company’s ability to meet the growing customer demand.
The expansion project includes new manufacturing plants in Altamira, Mexico and additional investments to enhance the productivity at the company’s other titanium dioxide manufacturing facilities across the globe. The expansion will add approximately 350,000 metric tonnes of titanium dioxide.
The Altamira facility requires more than $500 million investment and is expected to be completed at the end of 2014. It will produce about 200,000 metric tonnes of titanium dioxide per year. Upgrades of five titanium dioxide sites is ongoing and will continue till 2014 and provide an additional capacity increase of 150,000 metric tonnes.
Titanium dioxide is a white pigment, which is extensively used in laminates, coatings, plastics and paper industries. DuPont will deliver superior quality titanium dioxide based on customer requirements through capacity expansion and constant focus on innovations.
