Albemarle, a global manufacturer and distributor of engineered specialty chemicals for use in petroleum refining, packaging, construction, pharmaceuticals, consumer electronics, crop protection, automotive, food-safety, utilities and custom chemistry services, announced that it has acquired an Iowa-based company, Catilin.
The acquisition expands Albemarle’s footprint in the renewable fuels market. Catilin specializes in developing heterogeneous biodiesel catalysis.
The products and technology from Catilin will reinforce Albemarle's offerings to the renewable fuels sector. The acquisition will also provide additional benefits to Albemarle in the areas of research and development and marketing strategies.
John Nicols, VP of Albemarle's Catalysts division, stated that the company is happy to add Catilin’s technology to its GoBio portfolio. This enables Albemarle to offer a wide range of biofuel catalysts to its customers.
Albemarle was established in 2007 and since then has become a prominent distributor of heterogeneous catalysts for the biofuels market. So far, the company has introduced eight products in its GoBio line for biomass conversion.
