SABIC Unveils New Optical Quality Grade Resin

SABIC , the Innovative Plastics business, announced that it has expanded its polycarbonate (PC) portfolio with the addition of the new SABIC PC resin, a transparent and optical quality grade thermoplastic material.

The announcement has taken place at the Chinaplas 2011 event. The manufacturing of the high-quality SABIC PC resin is carried out at SABIC’s Saudi Arabia facility. The material will be supplied to the rapidly growing markets: Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It is suitable for applications such as optical-quality, custom compounding, high-volume extrusion and general-purpose uses.

Innovative Plastics’ Lexan PC product line includes copolymers, blends, compounds, sheets, and films. The innovative optical quality grade resin from SABIC provides outstanding thermal, electrical, optical and mechanical properties. The features of the SABIC PC resin include exceptional processability, dimensional consistency at high temperatures and resistance to UV rays and heat and have high impact strength. The thermoplastic material also provides transparency as clear as water and it is ideal for large volume production processes like sheet extrusion and compact disc manufacturing.
