3M Offers Optical Films for Tablet PCs

Optical Systems Division has exhibited advanced optical films for tablet PC applications at the SID Display Week 2011. The event was scheduled from May 16 to May 20 and took place in Los Angeles, California. Optical Systems Division is a part of 3M.

The company mainly demonstrated the BEF4-GMv2, BEF4-GT, LBR-160 and APF-V3 optical films. The BEF4-GT and the BEF4-GMv2 are thin brightness enhancement films. The LBR-160 is an efficient back reflector, while the APF-V3 is a 26 µ thick optical film and is used as a high brightness reflective polarizer. The combination of these optical films can extend the battery life in tablets. They can also enhance the display brightness by over 50% and can contribute to total thickness reduction of backlight films by 30%.

3M continues to focus on new innovations to meet the technical demands of tablets. The major challenges are to extend tablet battery life and allow the development of very thin and lightweight devices. The new optical films from 3M meet these challenges and offer high performance.
