GT Solar International has secured the largest order for polysilicon production technology and equipment from OCI, a south Korean-based firm dealing in polysilicon. The order is worth $228 million. OCI will install the polysilicon production equipment in its new Phase 4 manufacturing facility.
The President and CEO of GT Solar, Tom Gutierrez stated that the company is happy to collaborate with OCI, who is a long-term partner. By providing the required technology, GT Solar will help reduce the polysilicon production costs. The technology decreases operating cost and enhances productivity.
Construction of the new production plant is expected to be completed at the end of fourth quarter of 2012. OCI’s phase 4 facility has a capacity to produce 20,000 metric tons of polysilicon. OCI expects that the completed facility will boost the polysilicon production capacity to 62,000 metric tons per year.
The company’s polysilicon production equipment portfolio includes CVD reactors and technologies such as product processing, filament and hydrochlorination equipment.
