Valspar Aquaguard water-based coating technology and its application process for shipping containers has been commercialized by Valspar, a specialist in the paint and coatings industry.
Valspar’s technical team partnered with China International Marine Containers (CIMC) to carry out the commercial-scale production of shipping containers with Aquaguard coating technology at CIMC’s manufacturing facility in Dalian, China.
The shipping container industry now has an environmentally friendly solution, which helps the industry to shift from zinc-containing and solvent-based materials to zinc-free and water-based coating. The technology also aids container manufacturers to reduce their capital and operating costs.
Valspar has significant expertise in water-based coating technologies and serves a number of markets such as wood, structural steel, construction and agricultural equipment and transportation. Estimates inicate that Valspar Aquaguard water-based coating could cut down solvent emissions by over 70% compared to traditional solvent-based materials. The corrosion tests and field testing showed that the coating provides a higher rate of protection against corrosion.
Valspar Aquaguard technology also received significant support from Triton Container, an international leasing firm.
