Two regional Jazz aircraft have been repainted using PPG Aerospace’s chromate-free green coating system. Ontario-based Springer Aerospace carried out the repainting process with PPG’s DESOGEL EAP-9 metal pretreatment, DESOPRIME CF/CA 7502 epoxy primer and DESOTHANE HD/CA 9000 clearcoat/basecoat.
Jazz Aviation has selected the innovative coating products from PPG as they are highly durable, more environmentally friendly, long lasting and lightweight. The advanced coatings system also offers a smooth, shiny and more durable finish. In addition, they minimizes weight and environmental impact.
Jazz has become the first commercial airline in Canada to use the new green painting technology for its airplanes. The company turned to green options due to three aspects of the PPG system.
- The initial one is the coating system’s chromate-free primer and pretreatment formulations, which do not need special handling and waste removal
- The second feature is that the green technology decreases the painted aircraft weight by over 30 pounds, which leads to lower emissions and increased fuel savings
- The last aspect is that the PPG coating system extends the repainting cycle time because of high durability of the Desothane HD/CA 9000 clearcoat/ basecoat. This provides green advantages and additional cost savings.
The combination of DesoGel EAP-9 pretreatment and Desoprime CF/CA 7502 epoxy primer decreases rivet rash, enhances coating adhesion and provides exceptional resistance to corrosion.
