StyroChem, a producer of expandable polystyrene (EPS), has launched a new EPS resin with EcoPure technology called the EVRgreen.
The President for StyroChem, Glenn Wredenhagen commented that the EVRgreen is an eco-friendly product and has unlimited uses. This innovation supports the biodegradation of various foam products and effectively completes the foam’s life cycle. End users can now be happy about foam, he added.
Wredenhagen further said that the company’s EVRgreen expandable polystyrene resin can be used for packaging various products, including containers for foodservice, consumer goods packaging and various custom purposes.
When used plastics are discarded in biologically active landfills, microorganisms present in those landfills biodegrade the EVRgreen expandable polystyrene resin. The microorganisms break the polystyrene at the molecular level by interacting with the chemistry of the resin.
Utilizing the ASTM D5511-11 test, the EVRgreen has shown an average biodegradation rate of 14.2% in the initial 133 days of testing under specific conditions. During the test, the resin had retained the superior performance properties of conventional EPS resin, while promoting biodegradation.
