CERATECH, a manufacturer of sustainable cement products, has received a strategic equity investment from Cementos Argos, the fourth largest concrete manufacturer in the U.S. Alpha Natural Resources, The third largest producer of coal in the country, had earlier invested in CERATECH.
CERATECH’s cement product is carbon-free and composed of over 90% of fly ash. It fulfills USGBC's LEED rating system for green buildings. The unique manufacturing process used by the company creates more durable and sustainable cements.
Electric utilities generate waste fly ash and nearly 42 million tons of ash is deployed to landfills every year. This is equivalent to 60% of fly ash produced. Using high volume of fly ash may help eliminate or reduce landfilling requirements. Around 1,900 pounds of waste in landfills is eliminated by one ton of CERATECH's cement.
To produce a ton of Portland cement, around one ton of CO2 is generated. Such emissions are eliminated during the production of CERATECH’s non-Portland cement. The green cement, when compared to Portland cement, is comparatively cost-effective, more durable and more corrosion resistant.
The Colombian cement company, Cementos Argos, and CERATECH will collaborate to distribute the green cement in the southeastern, southwestern and mid-Atlantic U.S. markets.
