CERAM Acquires Surface Analysis Business

CERAM is pleased to announce the extension of its activities into the surface analysis field through the acquisition of CSMA Limited on 2 September 2002 in a deal which has excited the Directors and staff of both companies. CSMA supplies services based on the characterisation and analysis of the surfaces of materials and products. Initially formed as a spin-out company from UMIST in 1992, it has grown to be one of the leading companies in the UK and Europe specialising in this field, and is particularly well known for the high quality of its work and the capabilities of its staff. Surface characterisation and analysis is required by companies in many industry sectors to assist them to diagnose and improve their processes and products. CSMA’s customers cover a very wide range, including multi-national companies in electronics, pharmaceuticals and medical devices.

Neil Sanderson, the Chief Executive of CERAM, is highly delighted by this development. “CERAM is well known for its work in materials based industry sectors, and the types of services offered by CSMA are highly complementary to ours”, he says, going on to add that “the opportunity for delivering combined and enhanced services to both CSMA and to CERAM customers is an opportunity not to be missed”.

Dr Paul Stevenson, Commercial Director of CSMA, is equally delighted with this development and the opportunities it brings for the company. “This is an important development in the next phase of CSMA’s forward plans. The CERAM framework offers extended analytical facilities along with product design/development capabilities and manufacturing expertise. Our objective was to become ‘the one stop shop’ for surface and materials characterisation and related activities - we now have the additional expertise and structure to become this.”
