Borealis, a company specializing in chemical and unique plastics solutions, has confirmed to close two low-pressure facilities that have a total annual production capacity of 30 kt of melamine. The facilities are located in Linz, Austria.
As part of its €145 million investment plan for the Linz facility, Borealis continues to invest to enhance the efficacy of modern melamine high-pressure plants. Introducing advanced technology will compensate a major part of the capacity closure.
Borealis will supply its products with the same quality and reliability to its customers from its facilities in Piesteritz, Germany and Linz, Austria. The company’s key customers have planned to shift to high-pressure melamine production. It will continue to supply low-pressure melamine materials from its manufacturing facility to other customers. The facility has an annual production capacity of 20 kt. Borealis will optimize its warehousing and logistics to ensure on-time deliveries to its customers.
The company’s Executive Vice President of Base Chemicals, Markku Korvenranta commented that the decision is an important landmark on the company’s mission to enhance its competitive edge in the worldwide business scenario. The company’s well-defined objective to concentrate on sustainable market dominance in Europe will support its place via cost advantage, delivery service and quality, he added.
