Outotec has inked a deal worth €200 million with Samarco Mineracao to install an iron ore pelletizing facility in Brazil. The plant is marked as the largest facility of its kind in the world.
Outotec will book the deal in its second quarter order intake. Moreover, the deal includes €100 million purchases for the customer. Nearly 90% of the supplies and services for the turnkey project will be supplied from the region.
Outotec will install the iron ore facility at the iron ore port of Samarco located in Ponta de Ubú, Espírito Santo, Brazil. Once completed, the facility will process 9.25 million tons of iron ore annually using an 816 m² traveling grate indurating equipment. The plant is scheduled for operation by the end of 2013.
As per the deal, Outotec will offer conceptual and extensive engineering, complete process technology, project management, deliverance, development and start-up of the pelletizing facility.
Pertti Korhonen, Chief Executive Officer at Outotec, stated that Brazil is one of the largest iron manufacturers in the globe. The company’s technology dominance in pelletizing is illustrated by this 13th state-of-the-art pelletizing facility in Brazil, he added.
Korhonen further said that Samarco's new plant will meet the new environmental standards and will be considered as a yardstick for upcoming plants in terms of capacity, efficacy and sustainability.
