PPG Industries' (NYSE: PPG) automotive refinish business has introduced a new VIBRANCE COLLECTION(R) midcoat. The new product, VWM5556 Waterborne Midcoat, is specifically designed for use with PPG's environmentally preferred, waterborne basecoat systems, ENVIROBASE(R) High Performance and NEXA AUTOCOLOR(R) AQUABASE(R) Plus.
VWM5556 is a true waterborne solution for painters wanting to take full advantage of the array of custom colors, special-effect colorants and pigments available in the Vibrance Collection of finishes.
"The new midcoat is one more component in a complete waterborne system," said Steve Lehner, PPG, product manager, premium collision. "VWM5556 is a major advancement for custom car builders as it allows for the development and use of exotic pigments that were previously available only in solvent form."
As a multipurpose, midcoat layer for PPG waterborne basecoats, VWM5556 provides the medium for special-effect pigments when creating tricoat finishes. This versatile midcoat can also be successfully used as transparent protection over special custom graphics and effects for added depth and a distinctive appearance. Additionally, VWM5556 is extremely fast-drying and easy to use.
It is expected VWM5556's qualities will make it an essential and preferred component in creating hot colors and special effects for waterborne finishes, Lehner said.
