ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe’s casting-rolling mill located in Duisburg-Bruckhausen has manufactured its 20 millionth metric ton of hot strip steel. The company has delivered the hot strip steel to Lindab for designing air conditioning systems.
ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe began the production at the Duisburg-Bruckhausen facility in 1999. The 600 million worth deutschmark line manufactures superior quality hot strip steel products rapidly and energy efficiently.
According to Helmut Osterburg, who serves as team coordinator at ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe’s casting-rolling mill, the facility could produce more than its annual production capacity limit of two million tons.
At the casting-rolling mill, casting and rolling processes take place as one continuous process. The mill produces materials with more uniform microstructure than traditionally manufactured hot strip, resulting in products with more stable mechanical properties, including elongation and strength. The connected rolling mill’s advanced technology produces hot strip that have reduced thickness and close production tolerance.
The casting-rolling mill produces two new products called microalloyed and SCALUR steels. The products have accurate dimensions and uniform microstructure after the hot rolling process and thus eliminate additional cold rolling process. The mill produces over 50 varieties of steel grades for industries, including electrical, construction, appliance and automotive.
