Cereplast announced that it has signed a collaborative agreement with Polimernet Plastik to distribute Cereplast bioplastic resins to product and package manufacturers in Turkey.
Based on the agreement, Polimernet Plastik will supply a minimum of 100 tons of bioplastic resin every month for 2011 and the quantity will increase in 2012 and beyond. The European bioplastics market is growing at a rate of approximately 20% per year, according to European Plastics. In terms of market share, Europe is ranked third after Italy and Germany.
In 2011, Cereplast has signed six European distribution agreements. The agreement with Polimernet Plastik represents the high demand for bioplastic resin in the European market. Turkey is one of the European countries to adopt bioplastic material to protect the environment.
The Cereplast Compostable 7003 and Cereplast Compostable 3000 film grades will be used by Polimernet Plastik to manufacture bioplastic film for t-shirt bags, food packaging and garbage bags. The films can be processed using blown film extrusion machines and have equal toughness and puncture strength.
Polimernet Plastik’s General Manager, Selim Güven stated that Cereplast’s bioplastic resin is a better alternative to harmful petroleum-based plastic. The company is excited to bring pioneering, high-quality biobased materials to its Turkish customers for manufacturing packaging and products, Güven said.
