Ashland announced that one of its commercial units, Ashland Performance Materials has developed Pureseal 23322E, a new cold-seal adhesive for the food packaging industry in Europe.
The Pureseal 23322E is a water-based adhesive that can be applied using the flexographic printing process. Thus, it eliminates the need for expensive etching and re-etching processes. The adhesive, a synthetic-based cohesive is suitable for protective and medical packaging.
Ashland Performance Materials’ Director of sales, Stuart May pointed out that the major advantage of this adhesive is that it enables manufacturers to create cold-seal flexible packaging over narrow-web press equipment. Before rewinding, the cold-seal adhesive needs to be dried.
The novel cold-seal adhesive from Ashland can be spread as a full coat or applied as a pattern. It locks packages that include polyester, metalized oriented polypropylene (OPP), white OPP, biaxially OPP and other substrates for food packaging applications. The Pureseal 23322E meets the requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations for food packaging.
Ashland offers water-based, UV coatings and adhesives for a wide range of industrial applications including graphic arts, protective packaging, commercial printing, labels and tags and food packaging.
