Amyris, an integrated renewable products company, has commissioned a new production plant for Biofene renewable farnesene at the Antibióticos’ facility in León, Spain.
Currently, the company is producing Biofene at Biomin do Brasil Nutricão Animal’s facility located in Piracicaba, Brazil.
The company has planned to market Biofene for direct industrial applications or to process the renewable farnesene to produce a wide range of products, including diesel, finished lubricants, base oil and squalane.
Amyris’ CEO, John Melo stated that the company will increase Biofene production volume with its second industrial-scale facility. There is greater demand for Amyris’ renewable diesel and squalane and the production capacity increase will help to commercialize base oils.
Amyris has entered into agreements with manufacturers in the U.S., Europe and Brazil to increase its production. At present, the company has five production contracts with Tate & Lyle Ingredients Americas, Paraíso Bioenergia, Biomin and Antibióticos and has signed production agreement with Glycotech for establishing chemical finishing capabilities. Amyris has also formed a joint venture with an ethanol and sugar producer in Brazil, Usina São Martinho.
