Axion International’s Recycled Structural Composite Building Materials Selected for Trinidad Project

Axion International, a manufacturer of 100% recycled plastic-made railroad ties and industrial building products, has earned a purchase order for its novel recycled structural composite (RSC) material from Reddi Solutions Company.

The RSC material will be utilized in the first phase of a beachfront boardwalk in Trinidad. In the first phase, a concrete path will be replaced by a 12’ wide and 1,200 ft long low profile boardwalk. Steel and concrete building materials cannot withstand the adverse conditions of the salty tropical environment. Pressure-treated wood fares are also not suitable for the project. The new boardwalk will feature a lifeguard tower, bench seating and more deck areas.

The Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA) is managing the beachfront boardwalk’s two phases, which will be situated in the Chaguaramas peninsula. The proposals for the project’s second phase are not yet fully finalized. However, it is anticipated to be considerably bigger than the first phase.

The RSC building products are inert materials and free from toxic materials. They are lighter than conventional building materials, thus reducing energy and transportation expenditures. Moreover, they are 100% recyclable after the completion of their operating life.

The Chief Executive Officer and President at Axion, Steve Silverman stated that the CDA and Reddi Solutions selected RSC building materials, as they are resistant to bugs and water and free from chemicals. Moreover, the maintenance-free products will not corrode or deteriorate, thus offering a cost-saving solution, he added.
