Mitsui Chemicals, a manufacturer and distributor of flexible polymeric materials for various industrial applications, including construction materials, packaging and automotive, has introduced a new NOTIO SN controlled nano structure elastomer.
NOTIO PN, an alpha-olefin-based elastomer with a crystalline nano structure, is currently manufactured and distributed by Mitsui Chemicals. This material is utilized in tubing, hoses, films, sheets and other packaging materials. It offers high rubber elasticity, flexibility and heat resistance.
NOTIO SN elastomer possesses features of NOTIO PN and in addition, it has excellent scratch resistance and abrasion resistance characteristics. The new material with a syndiotactic structured molecular chain is extremely adaptable to extrusion and calendaring manufacturing techniques. NOTIO SN’s high qualities are anticipated to create demand for use in synthetic leathers.
Synthetic leathers produced using the syndiotactic elastomers are lightweight, organic solvent-free, scentless, phthalate-free and moisture and wear resistant. Synthetic leathers have potential applications in various sectors, including stationery goods, furniture, shoes, bags and automotive materials. Mitsui Chemicals’ new product is more compatible with olefin polymers, pigments, fillers and polyolefin polymer additives.
The new syndiotactic elastomer is manufactured using proprietary metallocene catalyst and production is carried out at Mitsui Chemicals’ existing facility located within Ichihara Works. The sales of NOTIO SN elastomer has commenced in April 2011. The company will continue to focus on development of applications for NOTIO SN syndiotactic elastomer.
