Styron has expanded its EMERGE Advanced Resins line with the addition of a new polycarbonate blend. EMERGE™ PC/PET 9100CR is the new advanced resin that is developed exclusively for medical equipment housing uses.
It is an ignition-resistant, non-brominated and non-chlorinated material with excellent chemical resistance characteristics. The blend combines the flow, toughness and processability of ABS with the physical features of polycarbonate.
Medical practitioners have improved their standard operating processes for infection control as the importance of managing the risk of hospital acquired infections (HAIs) is increasing. One of the ways to control infections is by selecting new chemicals and cleaning methods for durable medical devices.
The major challenge in the infection control process is that the chemicals used are sensitive and can damage plastic surfaces resulting in cracking, crazing and also leads to product failure. To meet the challenge, Styron has developed the new advanced polycarbonate blend to withstand potential opponents.
EMERGE PC/PET 9100CR advanced resin material offers a unique and pleasing appearance and is available in natural and custom colors. It provides enhanced resistance to environmental stress-cracks and maintains the toughness required for housings.
Styron also offers CALIBRE Polycarbonate Resins for single- and multiple-use medical equipment. CALIBRE MEGARAD is the company’s flagship product that employs color compensation technology to provide color stability.
