SAPCo, a joint venture between Evonik Industries and Saudi Acrylic Acid Company, has awarded the super absorbent polymer (SPA) plant construction project to Fluor, a specialist in designing, building and maintenance of several challenging and complex projects in the world.
The facility will be located in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Fluor will offer engineering, procurement and construction services to the SPA project.
Super absorbent polymer produced by the SAP facility is used to manufacture disposable diapers. SAPCo’s SAP project is ongoing and it is anticipated to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2013. It is a part of Saudi Acrylic Acid’s larger program.
President of Energy & Chemicals Group of Fluor, Peter Oosterveer stated that SAPCo has chosen Fluor to build the new Saudi Arabian facility, as they have over 60 years of experience in successful execution of oil & gas, plastics and chemicals projects in Saudi Arabia. The emerging interest in plastics and chemicals development works in the Middle East and across the globe enhances the long-term leadership position of Fluor in developing similar kind of projects. Fluor’s professional staff in Haarlem, Netherlands; Manila, Philippines; and Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia will be involved in the construction project.
