Albemarle has been awarded a contract to manufacture and supply high-performance renewable base oils from Amyris' renewable farnesene to Novvi, a Brazilian company. Novvi is an Amyris and Cosan joint venture, established to develop, produce, sell and distribute renewable synthetic base oils derived from Biofene to global markets.
Based on the contract, Fine Chemistry Services (FCS) division of Albemarle will support custom expansion and production of synthetic, renewable base oils for use in the lubricants market. NovaSpec, renewable base oils manufactured at Albemarle, will be distributed by Novvi to global lubricant producers.
VP of FCS division, Ron Gardner stated that Albemarle is delighted to collaborate with Novvi and Amyris for the manufacture of renewable base oils. In addition, Novvi’s Managing Director, Lineu Moran stated that the partnership with Albemarle strengthens their commitment to offer the highest quality of Biofene-based synthetic, renewable base oils to the lubricants market. Albemarle anticipates to begin manufacturing of NovaSpec synthetic base oils soon at its facility in Orangeburg, South Carolina using Amyris’ Biofene material.
