At the 2011 FAKUMA tradeshow for plastics processing, WACKER will introduce two innovative liquid silicone rubber grades: ELASTOSIL LR 3170/40 and ELASTOSIL LR 3011/50 FR.
The products have higher flame resistant property and minimize processing costs. Both the liquid silicone rubber grades can be easily incorporated into the injection-molding process.
ELASTOSIL LR 3170/40 is a self-adhesive liquid silicone rubber that is ideal for manufacturing flame-retardant, two-component injection molded parts in large volumes with a high level of automation and significant speed. This new silicone grade employs WACKER’s patented self-bonding technology. The product eliminates surface priming or pretreatment processes. ELASTOSIL LR 3170/40 gets easily bonded to hard components, including certain flame-resistant polyamides and metals like aluminum.
Till now, liquid silicone rubber grades have been delivered with inert fillers like quartz. But, the addition of fillers leads to greater material abrasion during the injection molding process. The abrasion found in the injection mold decreases maintenance intervals and enables expensive mold reworking. The abrasion issue is solved by the new liquid silicone rubber, ELASTOSIL LR 3011/50 FR. The product is developed with special inert fillers that offer excellent flame-retardant features without the need for abrasive additives.
ELASTOSIL LR 3011/50 FR and ELASTOSIL LR 3170/40 have potential applications in processes, which require high levels of fire protection and properties connected with silicone. The properties include aging, weathering, heat resistance, electrical non-conductivity and elasticity at low temperatures. Both the grades have various applications, including single-wire seals for housing solar collectors, axial and radial seals used in connection sockets and LED fittings used for background lighting in flat screen monitors.
