WACKER, a chemical company based in Munich, Germany, announced that it will introduce its newly developed silicone adhesive for medical applications at COMPAMED 2011 that is scheduled for November 16-18, 2011.
SILPURAN 4200 is a single-component adhesive and a condensation-curing silicone rubber product that has exceptional adhesion properties. The adhesive is transformed into a silicone elastomer with excellent mechanical strength by applying a vulcanization process. Thus, it is suitable for binding medical components permanently.
The biocompatible silicone adhesive is ideal for connecting vulcanized silicone components. In addition, it can be utilized to bind textile surfaces onto silicone. The vulcanized silicone adhesive film can support large mechanical loads and it has excellent tear resistance and tensile strength. SILPURAN 4200 is a preferred product for bonding medical device components, as well as for bonding molded silicone parts and textiles utilized in producing orthotic and prosthetic devices.
WACKER’s SILPURAN 4200 is produced using a new catalyst that is free from organotin compounds. Thus, the new single-component adhesive is safe in the health perspective. Based on specific USP Class VI and ISO 10993-1 tests, SILPURAN 4200 is certified as a biocompatible product. SILPURAN 4200 is easy-to-process and it can be applied either manually or automatically Curing is done by exposing the material to air and moisture and a thin skin is produced within 10 minutes.
