Henkel announced that it is introducing the first-ever isocyanate-free laminating adhesive, Liofol Fast One, at the 7th ICE Europe event in Munich, Germany. This one-component adhesive has high initial bond strength and an exceptional fast curing capacity.
These features enable packaging manufacturers to perform printing, cutting and lamination in just a single step. The curing time of Liofol Fast One is decreased to few days, which is nearly two weeks in the case of conventional adhesives.
One of the significant advantages of Liofol Fast One is that it offers flexibility in terms of packaging as well as value chain. Other benefits of the new laminating adhesive are it saves time, decreases capital employed and lessens warehousing costs.
The food packaging industry needs to meet the terms of legal requirements regarding food. The legal compliance requires full chemical curing and quality measurements. If the bonding adhesive is not completely cured while the pack is filled, the left over isocyanate monomers can get transferred to the food content and react with water to produce primary aromatic amines.
Henkel has provided a solution for this issue and the launch of the isocyanate-free laminating adhesive signifies the company’s commitment towards continuing a balance between economic success, environmental protection and social responsibility. The adhesive prevents the creation of primary aromatic amines. Liofol Fast One also decreases the threat of mixing-ratio errors, which results in waste reduction compared to the conventional two-component system.
