Bayer CropScience, a subgroup of Bayer AG, has developed a bednet that comprises unique features to benefit the people living in malaria-spreading areas.
The World Health Organization Pesticide Evaluation Scheme (WHOPES) has released a detailed report, which describes the outstanding effectiveness of LifeNet net against mosquitoes that spread malaria.
The report reveals that LifeNet shows superior effectiveness after 30 washes and its restoration after washing within a day. The result surpasses WHOPES requirements of efficacy after 20 washes. Thus, Bayer CropScience is offering a solution that provides more nights of protection with longer replacement intervals. This benefits the company’s stakeholders and the net users. LifeNet has been assessed based on WHOPES testing specifications in field studies in India, Benin and Tanzania where pyrethroid susceptible and resistant mosquito strains were found.
LifeNet is the first long-lasting mosquito net that combines the mechanical strength of polypropylene with the effectiveness of deltamethrin, an active ingredient. It also includes the softness of multifilament polypropylene fibers. The combination leads to a longer lifespan and greater durability by maintaining practicality and end user acceptance. The polypropylene fiber makes the net more tear resistant and provides a pleasant feel to touch. This will help to boost usage rates.
