A global leader in aluminium rolled products and aluminum can recycling, Novelis has expanded its presence in Asia by opening a new office. The office is located at the Shanghai World Financial Center.
The company has appointed James Liu as Novelis China’s Managing Director and Director of Sales and Marketing, Automotive Asia. Liu will be responsible for Novelis’ business development in China, which is a part of the company’s long-term Asian growth strategy.
Novelis’ President and CEO, Philip Martens stated that the demand for aluminium is growing rapidly compared to the other competitive materials. The flat rolled aluminium product market is anticipated to increase twice in size by 2020, as worldwide urbanization and earnings continue to grow in Asia, especially in China. This is the right time for the company’s expansion initiative to further benefit from such a major opportunity. The ongoing Korean expansion project and current investment in China helps Novelis to meet the demand from Asian customers for automotive, can and other specialty products.
At present, Novelis is investing around $400 million to extend its aluminium rolling and recycling capabilities in South Korea. This helps to address the increasing demand from the Middle East and Asia. The expansion of the aluminium rolling operations will improve the annual production capacity of aluminium sheets in Asia to 1Mt.
