Novelis, a global producer and supplier of aluminium rolled products and aluminium can recycling, has been chosen to supply aluminium sheets for Jaguar Land Rover’s new Evoque model. Evoque is the first lightest and high fuel-efficient Range Rover designed by the British automaker.
Evoque rover includes roof, hood and structural components made of Novelis’ aluminium sheet. Anticorodal-600 PX (Ac-600 PX), a high-strength aluminium alloy, is used for the complex roof design. The material offers exceptional formability and high strength in a lighter package. Ac-600 PX is approximately 20% stronger than the standard aluminium automotive sheet. The superior strength delivers an opportunity to minimize the sheet thickness by 15%, which makes the material suitable for applications like doors, roofs, fenders and hoods.
Novelis has been a preferred aluminium supplier to Jaguar Land Rover for over 20 years and is now supporting the automotive company to manufacture high quality vehicles with decreased emissions and enhanced fuel economy. Jaguar Land Rover is a specialist in the application of weight-saving metal to its products, including Jaguar XK, XF and XJ models, Range Rover Sport, Discovery and Land Rover Defender.
Novelis serves customers in Asia, Europe and North America by offering high-performance aluminium sheets from its rolling plants. The company also collects aluminium scraps from stamping facilities of clients and recycles them into new sheet. Aluminium recycling employs only 5% of the energy required to manufacture primary metal and eliminates 95% of greenhouse gas emissions.
