Teijin, a Japanese global technology group, has a produced a green carpet manufactured from PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles for the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) to be held in October. This is the fourth consecutive year that the company has provided a green carpet for the festival.
Teijin has used over 23,000 recycled PET bottles for the eco-friendly green carpet material for the TIFF. Teijin produced the carpet from its ECOPET recycled polyester fiber, which is manufactured from used PET bottles. Green carpet material spanning 1,600 m x 90 cm is to be used for the festival. The TIFF opening ceremony to be held at the Tokyo Roppongi Hills complex usually uses a red carpet, but now Teijin’s green carpet will be used.
Teijin's ECO CIRCLE FIBERS are recycled fibers that are made from used polyester products. They are made with the company’s ECO CIRCLE chemical-recycling system, which deliver quality equivalent to products made from petroleum.
Green pen cases made from the eco-friendly carpet material will be given away to attendees of the special TIFF screening to be held in Sendai on October 25. Sendai had been affected by the disaster in March. The green pen cases will also be given away to Toei Subway customers as a part of a TIFF associated campaign.
At the TIFF festival, Teijin will be providing green ribbons, ties, and "greenchief" handkerchiefs for guests and jackets for staffers of the festival.
To decrease CO2 emissions, the TIFF festival uses green power for its official events and screenings.
