Russian semi-trailers and tank manufacturers, Alcoa and Becema have introduced aluminium trailers that weigh less.
For this purpose, the companies used Alcoa’s latest aluminium sheet alloy 1565M, due to which the tank’s body weight has been decreased by 25 to 30% as compared to a base aluminium tank. As compared to a steel tank, the advanced aluminium tank’s weight has been reduced by 300%. In other words the new tank has lost over two tons of weight.
Aluminium has many advantages such as higher resistance to corrosion and durability. These qualities result in savings of fuel and transport costs and also enable lesser number of repairs, longevity and recyclability. Thought they weigh less, the new aluminium tankers are safe and enable the company to accommodate greater load within the weight requirements set down by the government. The aluminium alloy is also environmentally-friendly.
The companies showcased their new trailer during a customer event held by Becema called the “Becema Days” at the company’s plant in Krasnogorsk, Russia. Becema’s dealers and partners like Volvo and Daimler participated in the event. Alcoa also gave presentations highlighting the features and uses of aluminium in commercial transport systems.
Alcoa is a manufacturer of primary aluminium and aluminium alloys. It is also involved in the mining of bauxite and alumina. Alcoa has provided solutions like building systems, fastening systems, forgings and flat rolled products.
