A consumer packaging specialist, Rexam announced that it will construct a new aluminum beverage can manufacturing facility in Finland. The construction requires an investment of £68 million for more than three years.
The new plant will be built in Mantsala, which is located within 60km north of Helsinki in south west Finland. Recently, Finland has experienced a stable switchover from glass bottles to can fillings. In the past five years, the share of the beverage can for beer fillings in Finland has grown from 10% to over 60%.
Once the construction is completed, the plant will include two production lines and has a production capacity of about 1.35 billion aluminum beverage cans. The plant will produce two ranges of cans: 330ml and 500ml. The first line is anticipated to commence operation by 2013 and the second line by January 2014.
The new facility will enable the consumer packaging company to better serve the increasing demand from customers in the Baltic states and Finland in the future. In addition, Rexam will be able to further increase the plant efficiency throughout its European beverage can facility network and to optimize logistics.
