Big Cat Gets Bluetooth

Jaguar owners now have the option of going wireless. Jaguar and Motorola have launched the Jaguar Bluetooth wireless system, available on all 2005 model year and future Jaguars. The system allows a Bluetooth compatible cell phone to wirelessly connect to the vehicle.

Bluetooth is an international standard that allows electronic components to communicate with each other, using a short-range radio link. Bluetooth eliminates the need for wires or cables: typically, devices can communicate at a range of up to 33 feet. Motorola designed the global hands-free communication platform that can be ordered from the factory or installed at the dealership.

"As a leader in adapting cutting-edge, intuitive technology, Jaguar is excited to have Bluetooth wireless capability available on all of our 2005 model year vehicles," said CJ O'Donnell, executive vice president of Marketing, Sales and Communications for Jaguar North America. "Bluetooth is not only a convenience, but also offers an added safety benefit to Jaguar customers. We are very pleased to be among the first luxury marques to introduce this technology."

In the Jaguar Bluetooth Hands-Free system, the owner's cell phone, if it is a Jaguar-approved Bluetooth phone, is matched to the car's system. After that, the cell phone does not need to be physically connected to the vehicle as long as it is in the vehicle and the antenna is exposed.

"With Jaguar's previous system, the Motorola v60, the owner could drive while talking hands-free with the phone in a docking cradle," said Tom Scarpello, vice president of Marketing for Jaguar U.S. "The difference in the new system is that it does the same thing wirelessly without the need for a docking station or cables. As a result, one can continue the same phone call in the car, hands-free, even when the call began outside the car. One can also make those hands-free calls with the phone tucked in a pocket, or anywhere inside or near the car."

When a call is received by the Jaguar Bluetooth System, the name of the caller or phone number is displayed to the driver and the car stereo is automatically muted. If the driver chooses to accept the call, it is broadcast through the audio system inside the car. The system is specifically tuned to each vehicle and features Motorola's advanced noise reduction and echo cancellation technology to deliver the optimal experience, so all calls are clear and background noise is minimal.

Dependent on phone being used, the contact names and numbers from the mobile phone are downloaded into the system. Utilizing the integrated steering wheel and audio system controls, the driver can answer a call, scroll through phonebook entries where applicable or initiate a call. A Jaguar owner can also choose an optional voice recognition feature that enables the driver to place or receive calls with simple voice commands.

The Jaguar Bluetooth System has been designed to work with a wide range of Bluetooth technology cell phones available in the market today, but not all are compatible. Changing software releases by phone manufacturers can affect the performance of the system. As such, Jaguar does not guarantee availability or functionality with each wireless carrier and Bluetooth phone, so customers should select only Jaguar-approved phones with software that has been tested and approved by Jaguar.
