Momentive Performance Materials has declared that since customers are looking for inherent antimicrobial protection for their products, the company’s StatSil antimicrobial elastomer technology is being tailored for a wide range of healthcare industry applications.
The base silicone elastomer mixed with a silver-based antimicrobial additive is the basis of the novel elastomer line of addition curable, liquid silicone rubber and high consistency rubber custom compounds.
Normally, StatSil silver-based technology has no influence on processablity. These elastomers have been customized to fulfill specific processing and performance needs of a variety of components and devices. Production of StatSil technology-based silicone applications can be done in a hardness range of 20 to 80 Shore A. A StatSil elastomer representative sample fulfills the specifications of USP Class VI and ISO 10993 parts 6, 10, and 11 (a).
Momentive Performance Materials’ Marketing Manager for Consumer Goods and Healthcare in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India, Burkhard Ledig stated that StatSil technology is an ideal solution for producers seeking more design options and performance in applications that demand microbe growth control. Customers are satisfied with the inherent processability and antimicrobial features of the company’s StatSil materials, he said.
Ledig further said that these new elastomers are part of the company’s commitment to meet the increasing worldwide needs of healthcare applications using silicone elastomers, room temperature gels and vulcanizates. Besides proven antimicrobial protection, StatStil elastomers have superior resistance to a broad array of chemicals and temperatures.
