Eastman Chemical has unveiled Eastman Tritan copolyester MP100 for rigid medical packaging in Europe, hence expanding its Medical Polymers portfolio.
The properties of this new copolyester MP100 is similar to that of Eastar copolyester 6763, which has been considered as an industrial standard for rigid medical packaging. It has additionally offered benefits of processing, design and performance, due to its better intrinsic toughness, high heat resistance and excellent post-sterilization clarity and color.
Durability and sterilization benefits are offered by the Eastman Tritan copolyester to meet the demands of the growing market. It decreases the risk of sticking and warping, permits quicker cycle times of ethylene oxide and allows high sterilization chamber temperatures. The heat resistance of the material allows quick accelerated-aging protocols, decreases the aging impact, and raises the shelf life of a package.
Eastman Tritan copolyester’s design flexibility and robustness has guaranteed that the sterilized content remains protected. Tritan offers sustainability benefits by providing package redesign potential for down-gauging and light-weighting to decrease the width. The cost for shipping, secondary packaging and usage of energy may be decreased consequently for an enhanced ecological footprint.
Velfor Group and Vitasheet CAROLEX, which are the primary producers in Europe, have started the trial process of this new Eastman Tritan copolyester MP100 for rigid medical packaging.
MP100 copolyester offers good post-sterilization color and clarity, as it can rapidly return back to its original color and glass-like transparency after gamma sterilization in order to provide a superior look throughout its life-time.
The new Eastman Tritan copolyester provides processing and extruding properties, identical to Eastar copolyester 6763. Thermoforming can be performed on this polymer in minimal time and material wastage, since the material does not whiten due to stress, or there is no increase in angel or particulate hair when compared to sheets manufactured using other polymers.
Eastman has a long-term commitment to the requirements of the medical industry for over 65 years and is a consistent provider of medical-grade polymers for medical-device applications and rigid medical packaging.
