Novelis has secured Supplier Innovation Award from BMW at a special ceremony in Germany. It is one of the nine suppliers of BMW and has won this award for the first time in 2011.
The company received this award in the Lightweight Construction category for its new multi-layer aluminum sheet development, which has facilitated BMW to create aluminum door structures using one piece and with essential window frames. These latest door structures are 25% lighter than an identical steel design.
In addition, Novelis Fusion, another innovation of the company, creates value for BMW and its clients providing the advantages offered by lightweight aluminum as well as benefits of manufacture and assembly as a single unit. BMW manufactures more than 6,000 new doors for its latest 5 Series and 7 Series sedans, and the 5 Series Gran Turismo.
Novelis’ Senior VP and President of Novelis Europe, Tadeu Nardocci, has stated that the company is elated to be honored with BMW’s prestigious award. Several designs of Novelis have been used in the vehicle designs of BMW. This new product finds use in numerous automotive applications.
Roland Harings, Novelis’ VP for Global Automotive, has stated that the company is working on these latest product developments continuously, which will assist BMW to attain its goal on sustainability and design. The company is expecting to have a focused collaboration in research and development with BMW for many years.
