FUJIFILM Electronic Materials (FFEM), a manufacturer and provider of semiconductor materials, is planning to begin a new company for semiconductor material manufacturing in South Korea. FFEM is a subsidiary of FUJIFILM.
FFEM has entered an agreement with exax of South Korea for the expansion. The Fujifilm subsidiary will be providing a capital participation of 72%, and FFEM’s Taiwanese subsidiary - FUJIFILM Electronic Materials Taiwan, will be providing 23%, which will bring the total capital participation of the Fujifilm Group to 95%. exax will be contributing the remaining 5% for the joint venture.
Certain assets of exax, including its factory facilities are to be transferred to the new company. exax was established in 1976 as a chemical manufacturing company. It supplies materials, including display materials to major display manufacturers in South Korea. The new joint venture will make efficacious use of land, buildings and facilities belonging to exax. It will supply electronic material products including CMP slurries, cleaners and developers to major semiconductor manufacturers in South Korea. The products are compatible with the latest semiconductor manufacturing processes that are based on proprietary technologies belonging to the Fujifilm company.
The global recession did not have a significant impact on the Asian semiconductor market as it continued to grow strongly. In the coming years, South Korea is expected to maintain its high growth rate. The country is also expanding its presence in the semiconductor market.
The current establishment of the new manufacturing subsidiary is aimed at enhancing the company’s capacity, and streamlining product delivery to enhance customer satisfaction. It will also contribute to the improvement of the semiconductor device industry. Fujifilm is utilizing its FFEM's operation bases in the United States, Belgium and Asia to develop a system for providing semiconductor manufacturing equipment, services and materials throughout the globe.
