APV Engineered Coatings’ subsidiary, NanoFusing has entered into a partnership with Zyvex Technologies, the world’s first company specializing in molecular nanotechnology, to offer nano-enhanced products and concentrates to the OEM and infrastructure markets.
Through NanoFusing’s nanotube dispersing and production experience and Zyvex’s scientific resources based on nanotechnology, the partnership will synthesize customized carbon nanotube-enhanced concentrates for developing stronger, lightweight and high-performance materials with superior optical and conductive properties.
Zyvex Technologies and NanoFusing have significantly invested in the development of processing and engineering to produce Epovex, a carbon nanotube enhanced adhesive from Zyvex for automotive applications. At present, the adhesive has been used by the Genoa Racing team for repairing its cars. The adhesive has delivered a permanent repair solution to the cars with bonding better than that of welding. It is capable of delivering a quick repair solution to future carbon fiber cars at a lower cost.
NanoFusing’s in-house carbon nanotube dispersing technology known as NanoFusing evenly dissolves carbon nanotubes into the host’s matrix materials and liquid resins carefully. Zyvex’s novel Kentera technology chemically binds carbon nanotubes and the host matrix materials to form a stable bond between them.
The partnership is expected to deliver its first application to a major automotive supplier that manufactures several drive train and engine components for a broad array of commercial vehicles. Nano-enhanced coatings find applications in the production of stronger and fuel-efficient reliable engines and semi-trucks.
