Ecology Coatings, a developer of nanotechnology-based, ultraviolet-curable finishing, has declared that the company has manufactured a UV-curable coating, which satisfies the exacting needs of the healthcare sector.
The UV-curable coatings do not contain benzophenone and can be applied to a multi-layered printable patient identification wristband, thereby promoting it within the food and healthcare industry.
Bob Crockett, Chief Executive Officer of Ecology Coatings, stated that the company has been providing a US label manufacturing company with its developed UV-curable coating for use in patient identification bands in the healthcare sector. Crockett said that Ecology Coatings research and development department’s Vice President, Sally Ramsey has been working with manufacturers to understand the durability, longevity and use of the patient wristbands in the hospital, based on which the coating material is developed, such that it appears clear, glossy and shows resistance to blood, betadine, water, antimicrobial skin cleaners, acetone and alcohols coming in contact with the bands.
The developed coatings are subjected to extensive laboratory tests, before it is delivered to the label manufacturer for user testing. Ramsey said that the results of the customer testing were outstanding, which takes the development to higher levels. According to AHA statistics from 2009, there are over 5,800 hospitals registered in the United States having 37 million annual patient admissions and about 944,000 staffed beds, which are in need of the patient identification bands.
