Immanuel Bible Church Installs SageGlass’ Dynamic Glass in New Atrium

SageGlass dynamic glass has been installed in the Immanuel Bible Church located in Springfield, Virginia, to offer advanced daylighting control. The installation is part of a multi-year building expansion.

SageGlass offers a zero-maintenance way to shade and illuminate the interior of the multi-purpose atrium having an area of 7,800 sq. ft. and height of 58 ft, which is the masterpiece of the project. The atrium will be utilized as a conference hall, theatre, meeting place and video-fed overflow space for worship services.

SageGlass has been installed in the upper story of the atrium. Accurate lighting control is necessary to carry out several church functions, including ministry promotions, conferences, movies, concerts and performances.

SageGlass is an electronically tintable glass that modifies color based on the changes in daylight conditions, resulting in automatic darkening or lightening of the glass as required. Clear, intermediate tint and fully tinted were the three controls set by Immanuel Bible Church for SageGlass. Since the accessibility to the clerestory windows of the atrium is virtually difficult, the church chose SageGlass as it easily delivers better light control, darkening and lightening at the press of a button without accessing the windows.

In addition to room-dimming features, the building committee of the church also demanded the optimization of natural daylight in the building in order to reduce the electrical lighting expenditures. Ron Urice, who serves as Project Manager, stated that SageGlass is a cost-competitive and minimum-maintenance solution when compared to conventional sun control solutions.
