A major milestone has been achieved by an international consortium including scientists from Ukraine, Ukraine and The Netherlands in understanding ultrafast magnetic phenomena.
About 10 decades ago, magnetic phenomena were never understood fully. This is due to the fact that during this period only the fundamentals of quantum mechanics had been discovered.
At present, physicists explain the theory of magnetism via a model of a magnet. They are able to show the fact that each magnet includes spins or elementary atomic magnets that are strongly coupled by exchange interaction, also known as quantum mechanical force. But, still the theory of magnetism remains to be incomplete in terms of time-scale. Earlier, theories have been assumed that quantum mechanical force is significantly powerful. Hence, when a magnet gets excited, the exchange interaction produces very high equilibrium between the spins.
The consortium has created a new theory for ultrafast magnetism, which reveals the hidden power of the exchange interaction. The theory illustrates magnetic phenomena based on time-scale of coupling among the spins. The breakthrough theory also forecasts that spins with parallel coupling is possible using an exclusive excitation. Thus, the breakthrough will lead to innovative approaches to record and process magnetically stored information at faster time scales.
