LyondellBasell, a licensor of polyethylene and polypropylene technologies, has licensed its Lupotech T polyolefin process technology to Samsung Total Petrochemicals. The technology will be deployed in a new plant in Daesan, South Korea.
The plant will have an annual production capacity of 200 KT of ethyl vinyl acetate (EVA) and low density polyethylene (LDPE) polymers. The new South Korean plant is expected to start operation in 2013.
LyondellBasell’s Lupotech T polyolefin process technology has a licensed annual production capacity of over 9 MT. Hence, it is a leading EVA and LDPE process technology in the market. Samsung Total Petrochemicals has chosen LyondellBasell’s technology as it has greater potential to produce high-quality EVA and LDPE copolymers. The technology offers several benefits, including production capacities of nearly 450 KT per year, high on-stream factor, rapid start-up and low production and investment costs. Thus, Lupotech T is seen as an ideal technology to produce EVA and LDPE copolymers in the current market.
In addition, Samsung Total Petrochemicals operates a Spherizone polypropylene plant at the Daesan petrochemical complex with an annual capacity of 250 KT. The plant has been licensed by LyondellBasell.
Other polyolefin and polypropylene technologies offered by LyondellBasell include Metocene PP, Spheripol, Spherizone, Hostalen and Spherilene.
