Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has secured a contract from Diaco, the Brazilian Gerdau company’s Columbian branch, to modernize two bar mills at its Tocancipá and Tuta sites.
Siemens is expecting that the modernized rolling mills will start operation by the end of 2012. These rolling mills will be specially designed to manufacture rebars in various diameters.
Diaco will receive the fluid system and mechanical equipment from Siemens for its bar mill in Tuta. A new pinch roll and a billet feeder will be installed in the roughing mill. Siemens will fully renovate the remaining portion of the rolling line. Eleven Red-Ring rolling stands will be set in this rolling line. Siemens will provide three new stand motors.
A new main drive will be installed in the rolling mill located at Tocancipá in Cundinamarca Province and is for the mechanical and rougher equipment like drive spindles, shears, gears and loop formers. A new cooling bed in the cooling segment and shears for cold and hot cutting will be installed, which will include basic automation and related electrical component. The scope of supply includes Mechatronics packages for optimized cutting and shearing.
Siemens takes the responsibility to direct the commissioning and installation of both the projects.
