Siemens’ New Plate Mill Obtains Final Acceptance Certificate from Jigang

Jinan Iron & Steel Group (Jigang), a Chinese company, has awarded the final acceptance certificate for Siemens’ new 4.3 m plate mill in Jinan during 2011. This mill is specifically designed to manufacture 1.8 Mt of plate annually.

Siemens dealt with the project engineering and delivered mechanical equipment, automation and drives for the recent rolling mill.

Siemens received the order from Jigang for the new mill during the starting of 2008. A double-stand roll mill, a finishing shop, three heating furnaces, a shearing line and cooling beds are present in this Jinan plate rolling mill. Siemens offered the mechanical device for a hot and cold plate leveler, a double side shear, the Mulpic intensive cooling system with accelerated cooling or direct quenching (ACDQ) and the finishing stand, which is installed using SmartCrown technology. Jigang supplied the additional mechanical parts.

Siemens was held responsible for all process models for the complete instrumentation and automation, the rolling plant and heating furnaces, tracking material system from insertion to the furnace in order to ship the prepared plates to the supply center. Sinamics’ voltage source converters, SM150 gives the 3-phase synchronous motors that supply power to the main drives on the finishing and roughing stands. The essential rolling forces are provided by the two motors. The complete solution is formed on the basis of built-in Siroll PM concept used in plate rolling mills.

The products ranging from 6 to 120 mm of width and breadth from 1,500 to 4,100 mm can be rolled in the new mill. The weight of the plate is around at least 22 t. Such plates are utilized in the oil & gas and shipbuilding industries.
