Chromatography applications expert Wei Sen Wong from Malvern Panalytical, will talk about the practicalities of high temperature gel permeation chromatography (HT-GPC) at the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Joint International Polyolefins/FlexPack Conference being held in Houston, Texas, February 26-29, 2012.
Malvern Panalytical is also an exhibitor at the event and will display their systems at Booth #40.
Wei Sen Wong's presentation on the 'Application of high temperature chromatographic and viscometric techniques for the characterization of polyolefins', focuses on the unique challenges of using advanced detectors, such as static light scattering (SLS) and viscometry, when characterizing polyolefins with gel permeation chromatography at elevated and high temperatures. It also highlights the excellent results that are possible using HT-GPC systems for a number of polyolefin samples.
Malvern Panalytical's Viscotek HT-GPC system brings full automation to high temperature analysis. Requiring no user interventions for sample filtering, it is uniquely specified for safe, routine operation at the high temperatures (160oC) necessary for analyzing polyethylene and polypropylene. It measures absolute molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, and polymer chain branching in just a single experiment. These are critical parameters for polyolefins that influence in-use properties such as strength and permeability.
