Arkema, a France-based chemicals producer, has inked a deal with Elevance Renewable Sciences, headquartered in Woodridge, Illinois, to develop and produce renewable specialty polymers.
The partnership combines Arkema’s expertise in the bio-based specialty polymers with Elevance Renewable Sciences’ high performance ingredients.
As per the agreement, Elevance will deliver several innovative, distinguished, functionalized renewable materials, including 9-decenoic methyl ester, from its bio refineries. The two companies will jointly work to develop a new line of specialty bio-based polymers by using methyl ester intermediate from Elevance Renewable Sciences.
Arkema’s Scientific Director, Jean-Luc Dubois commented that the alliance with Elevance provides Arkema a strategic opportunity to extend its existing feedstocks for bio-based raw materials and to reinforce its position in the developing bio-sourced polymer market.
Arkema employs an innovation-based approach to manufacture advanced specialty chemicals. The company provides its customers with practical solutions to meet challenges such as the need for lighter materials, fossil fuel preservation, the future of energy, access to drinking water and climate change. Elevance Renewable Sciences produces high-value specialty chemicals from natural oils. It uses the olefin metathesis technology to produce high performance ingredients for application in lubricants, detergents, personal care products and other specialty chemicals sectors.
