Momentive Performance Materials, a global supplier of advanced materials and silicones, has declared that it has expanded the application development center and the manufacturing plant in Chennai, India.
During 2009, the company opened this modern facility, which is currently focusing on the production of high-end specialty silicones for meeting the customers’ increasing demands in India, South Asia and the Middle East.
Craig O. Morrison, Momentive’s CEO stated that the company’s investment in expanding the facility show its potential to develop the silicones business in India, which is one of the rapidly growing regions in the field of automotive, energy, construction and telecom. In particular, Chennai is becoming an important center for various industries.
According to the company’s Managing Director, V.P. Nalian, this facility expansion will incorporate some complicated technology and production methods, which has been globally developed by Momentive for the Chennai facility. These technologies and processes will improve the company’s potential in serving the customers.
Dr. Eric Thaler, CTO of Momentive Performance Materials commented that the company is expecting to provide innovations and explores new opportunities for expanding the technology platforms in this area. This facility expansion will commercialize various specialty silicone branded products. The products include Niax additives used in polyurethane foam, Silsoft and Magnasoft additives for textile and personal care applications, SilFORT hardcoats for automotive glazing and lighting, and Silwet products for use in agriculture.
Momentive’s facility expansion in Chennai together with the global research and development center, and regional headquarters in Bangalore later this year become a part of long-standing commitment to India.
