Axion Receives Second Purchase Order from BART for Recycled Composite Switch Ties

Axion International has secured a purchase order from San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) for the second time.

The company will supply recycled composite switch ties to BART. The sustainable products from Axion signify an eco-friendly solution to the rail industry and are significantly gaining in terms of market share. Ecotrax Ties are free from preservatives and chemicals and can be utilized again, eliminating the need for standard disposal.

William Jordon, Axion’s Director of Business Development stated that the company is delighted with the continuous environmental commitment of BART. The supply of low maintenance and sustainable products from Axion will continuously benefit the Bay region. Railroads deal with rigorous disposal rules and face tougher environmental standards. There is a growing demand for quality long timbers, which are used in switches, all over the United States. ECOTRAX ties serve as a better solution to conventional materials and help to solve challenges that are faced by today’s railroads.

BART’s Board President, John McPartland commented that the usage of Axion’s recycled plastic ties is economic and BART is thrilled at the ecological implications. These ties meet the long-standing commitment of BART towards environmental responsibility. BART is named as the cleanest system by the Federal Transit Administration.

The range of Axion’s rail ties will be from 3.5 to 6.7 m. It is calculated that approximately 115,000 lbs of post-consumer plastic are diverted from landfills.

Axion produces ECOTRAX ties by means of its 100% recycled formula. These ties have helped convert more amount of waste and plastic bottles to useful products.
