Coperion has announced that it will exhibit the STS advanced series at Chinaplas, which will be held from 18 to 21 April 2012 in Shanghai. These advanced series are available in new and enhanced features.
The company will showcase two sizes of machine. A twin screw side feeder and a new STS die head are present in the STS 96 advanced compounder. The design of this machine is suitable for the compounding of cable compounds or biodegradable polymers or engineering. Products and process development in the lab and the manufacturing of various polymer compounds are the typical applications of the STS 35 advanced series, which are also being showcased.
All the standard applications are covered by the STS advanced compounders in the plastic compounding. The modular specifications of the screw elements and the screw barrels allow process lengths from 24 to 68 D. The advanced series feature five different sizes of machines and creates up to 3,800 kg/h of production throughputs.
Optimized flow geometry and an enhanced heating model are featured in the new STS die head. Heater cartridges that transversely run through the die head ensure an identical temperature across the entire thickness. The flow geometry is developed and the melt flow rate is uniform along the die head.
The STS advanced series’ process segment will provide different materials in future that feature enhanced resistance against corrosion and wear. The screw elements use a powder metal composite. The screw barrels are offered with oval liners present in hard cast chromium steel. The company has examined these materials thoroughly for enduring life and ensuring high reliability. Currently, 340 STS compounders are used throughout the globe for daily operation.
The company’s Nanjing lab in China will be equipped with new STS 35 advanced series by July 2012, to offer requirement-oriented and in-depth service for its potential clients.
