Tom Donofrio, owner of Artist Workshop Studios, has installed Acoustiblok, a proprietary viscoelastic polymer material, at his newly built in-the-box (ITB) recording studio in New York.
The noise abatement material from Acoustiblok was selected to offer a sound barrier for the small studio that can decrease decibels levels within the facility, as well as offer a neutral acoustical environment to perform recording work. Donofrio has been using different sound dampening materials for the earlier projects. Now, he has chosen Acoustiblok, as it is very thin and flexible and possesses excellent noise blocking and sound damping features. The use of the polymer material eliminates the need for additional layers of modified drywall or rigid drywall, which was used by Donofrioin the past. Thus, the material contributes to considerable floor space reduction.
Donofrio was seeking a product that will decrease the decibels in the ITB recording studio without requiring additional space and in addition, he doesn’t need a sound quality that was too live or too dead. Hence, the Acoustiblok noise abatement material was found to be an ideal choice. The installation of the 3mm Acoustiblok product on the newly designed stud walls has been successfully carried out inside the Artist Workshop Studios recording space, including cutout areas around a window and electric sockets. Lahnie Johnson,Acoustiblok’sPresident and Founder, stated that the installation of Acoustiblok enables the room to be a noise damped, expandable acoustical area and it is a perfect choice to establish sound quality within a recording studio similar to Donofrio’s Artist Workshop Studios.
